Observation 28, Mailart 365 /343

365 / 343.  Observation 28:  Note to self:  find out if all the 365-ers fell in love with fire hydrants this year or if it's just me.   (Note:  the color is off in this photo; the actual fire hydrant was bright red.)

Observation 2, 365/317

Observation 1, 365/316

In the final 10 days of completing 365 pieces of mailart in one year, I opted to use my last 50 official pieces for this project to talk about the project itself and my evolving philosophy of mailart.  Once I reached that decision, the pieces flew through my hands.

Mailart 365 - 297

297.  No, really.  I'm fine.  Why do you ask?

Mailart 365 - 296

296.  I'd be further ahead in this project if I hadn't been discombobulated for the last few weeks.

I finally learned how to photograph mailart with dangly stuff

After all this time, I decided to try photographing the mailart with dangly bits rather than scanning them. Great, isn't it?  And it only took me -- what, two years? -- to come up with a way to document this type of mail without all the bits slithering into each other while being scanned.  These are the last of the Holiday Mail for Heroes group.

A little reminder:  if you want to take part, the mailing deadline is December 10, 2010.

Snow Angel

No mail art again today. What is my world coming to?

I did manage to treat Koko to a long walk. Talk about snow angels -- this puppy loves him some snow! He looks for virgin territory so he can be the first to walk through it, playing snowplow. He delights in sticking his nose down into the snow. Sniffing every footprint -- man, woman, child, beast, bunny -- is his deepest desire. No, wait. His deepest desire is that we move north, most likely to -- oh, just a random thought here -- Labrador, where the livin' is freezy.

Here kitty kitty

We're in the down-and-dirty moments of finishing the new book.

Rather than beginning a soliloquy on how silly it is to take on projects that interfere with one's mail art, I'm instead offering this sweet photo of my parents' cat observing the world beyond the furnace -- a glimpse of winter in Ohio.

Alterna-tivity

Star on the horizon.

The little drummer lion and his sidekick the trumpeting cat.

Mary, Joseph, and a dapper inn keeper.

The four somehow-I-always-thought-they'd-look-wiser men and Marmee.

I got this display put together over the weekend and a few minutes ago went hunting images of other interesting nativities. I was surprised at how often unexpected creatures -- everything from the family cat to the family Darth Vader -- wander onto the scene. I'll let you know if I track down any marvelous ones.
