296. Glow in the Dark

296.  Glow in the Dark.  Sent to Jennifer Pitzer Brown.  The thread glows in the dark.
From the It's Only a Book project in which I'm deconstructing my 2003 book, Grace: A Memoir, and turning it into art.

It's possible that I work too hard to connect all the weirdly compelling elements in these marvelous arts. But I really do see connections! Theological nightmares, Phantom, glow-in-the-dark thread. I can even work New Holland in. Cool.

That's why I love you: for your brain that can make the same leaping connections I can make. And also for your joy and your spirit and your boys. Also you cats.

Got it Friday. Thank you.

We should note the flip side is from a cereal box and it has a cartoon postage stamp. So much to connect -- bran, raisins, nuts, Calvin, Hobbes, God (or is that god), glowing thread, Phantom and nightmares.

You should know that I have dreams that are so intense and real, they scare the beJesus about of me. Sometimes I wake up and think I'm still dreaming. And sometimes I am dreaming but think I am awake.

So your mailart makes a great deal of sense. Good work.

Whereas last night I dreamt that I was on holiday with Mary, my aunt. I don't know if we were here, in England, or at my cousin's house in Italy, but we were having a wonderful time. If I'd known about your dreams, I might have sent you a sweeter card.

No, I didn't need a sweeter card. I enjoy the power of my dreams.
And the Champlin collage is wonderful. Bath drive in and Princess theater. We have a princess theater in Hoptown. The woman's portrait in the bottom corner reminds me of a classic photo of Zora Neale Hurston.

Yeah, I probably knew that. Is the thread on your card glowing in the dark?

Jennifer P. Brown said...

Yes. IT glows.

I'm very happy to hear that.

I should send you more mail art. I like your expansive reviews.

How did you get started in this, and how many pieces of mail art do you have in your home that others have sent you?

I started doing mail art about the same time I got the notion to rip up some copies of Grace. I've done 290 plus probably another 50 that didn't get posted. I've received -- I don't know. 200 or 250. Or 300. A whole big bunch.
